The 722.8 Autotronic CVT's internal gearbox ECU fails (speed sensor circuits break down inside the sealed unit), throwing 'Transmission Visit Workshop' on the dash and dropping the car into limp mode with limited or no gear selection. A main dealer fix means a new ECU, valve body and coding at well over 1000 pounds; even specialist ECU rebuilds with fitting typically run 500-1000 pounds. Mileage is no guide to safety here: owner reports have it failing at 27,500, 30,000, 37,538, 43,000, 56,000 and 62,000 miles, and the valve body behind it was reported failing at around 70,000 miles

Are there any recalls on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class?
