The nylon coolant degas hose goes brittle with heat cycling and cracks or snaps, often at speed. The 1.0 EcoBoost carries very little coolant and runs high thermal loads, so it can empty in seconds and warp the alloy cylinder head before the temperature gauge tells the driver anything - the failure owners nicknamed "EcoBoom". Ford issued a revised hose and degas bottle design and carried out the work as a service action, NOT as a DVSA safety recall, so it does not appear on the GOV.UK recall checker and many cars were never done

IMPORTANT: this four-cylinder 1.5 EcoBoost (2014-2018, Sigma-derived) runs a conventional DRY external cam belt and a crank-driven oil pump, so it has no belt-in-oil component at all. Do not confuse it with the 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt, or with the later Mk4 three-cylinder 1.5, which is chain driven. Ford officially recommends 150,000 miles or 10 years; specialists advise dropping this to 100,000 miles, which is recorded here.

The 1.6 Ti-VCT petrol (Sigma) uses a dry belt. Ford's schedule for this specific engine was reduced to 8 years / 100,000 miles, against 10 years / 100,000 for other Sigma variants, reportedly because the variable cam timing units load the belt harder. Some US-oriented sources quote 150,000 miles / 10 years; the shorter UK figure is recorded. Failures are rare but this is an interference engine.

The 2.0 TDCi (PSA DW10 Duratorq) is belt driven on a Ford schedule of 125,000 miles (200,000 km) or 10 years for belt, tensioner and idlers.
