The 1.3 MultiJet diesel is highly susceptible to diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration issues, especially with short journeys or town driving. Fuel injected to burn off the filter can fail to combust and instead dilute the engine oil, raising the sump level. If ignored, the engine can run uncontrollably on its own sump oil, over-revving until it destroys itself, so the oil level needs watching closely.

The Dualogic automated manual is an ordinary manual gearbox shifted by a hydraulic actuator, and the actuator is the weak point: it cracks and leaks its fluid onto the electrics, the pump and accumulator fail, and the car jumps out of gear, refuses to select or drops to neutral in traffic. Owners report failures from as early as 17,000 miles. Repairs range from a cheap brake switch to a failed pump and accumulator that costs more than an older Panda or 500 is worth, and specialists note a 12-year-old Dualogic car with a transmission fault is effectively scrap value.

Some vehicles were assembled without the engine suspension reaction bracket fitted on the transmission side. The vehicles must be repaired by fitting the missing components (transmission reaction bracket and washer). The defect can be detected by noise and vibration being emitted from the front area of the vehicle. If ignored a possible consequence is a failed differential box resulting in oil leakage and in some cases the drive shaft could become disengaged and drop below the vehicle whilst in motion.

Generally 5 years or 72,000 miles. Some older 1.2 FIRE engines were 'non-interference', but newer models (e.g. Euro 5/Euro 6) will bend valves if the belt snaps.
The 1.3 MultiJet (1248cc, the Fiat/GM SDE sold elsewhere as the Vauxhall 1.3 CDTi and the Suzuki 1.3 DDiS) is chain driven, so there is no cambelt to change and no belt interval to quote. Honest John's Fiat schedule makes the point the other way round: the 36,000 to 40,000 mile timing belt change applies to every engine EXCEPT the 1.3 MultiJet. Do not read chain driven as maintenance free. Honest John logged two Panda 1.3 MultiJet chain failures on 2008 cars, at 60,000 and 100,000 miles, on cars given oil and filter changes every 7,500 miles, and one on a 75,000 mile Qubo 1.3 MultiJet. The tensioner is hydraulic and depends on oil pressure, so frequent oil changes of the correct grade are the protection, and a rattle on cold start wants investigating rather than driving through.
